Call for Sessions for the Congress 2027 in Frankfurt

We are delighted to announce that the Call for Sessions for the XVII International Numismatic Congress in Frankfurt 12-17 September 2027 will be open from 1 March to 15 June 2026.

To mark the centenary of the founding of the International Numismatic Council in 1927, the Congress will have the overall theme „Transformations and Transitions“.

We invite proposals for sessions, which may be of three kinds: Regular Sessions, Round Tables and Workshops. All formats will last three hours with two 90-minute blocks and a coffee break in between.

Regular Sessions consist of six papers of 30 minutes each on a thematically coherent topic. We specifically invite submissions that address the overall theme of the Congress, „Transformations and Transitions“, as well as topics that cross boundaries between periods and regions.

Sessions will be “half open“. The proposal may name a maximum of three designated speakers. The other three papers will be chosen from the subsequent open Call for Papers by the Congress organisers in conjunction with the proposer.

Proposals can be submitted via the online submission system and should include the title of the session together with a description of the theme and the names of all session organisers, as well as of the designated speakers together with the titles of their papers.

Round Tables take the form of interactive discussions with a limited number of presentations, the exact format of which is open to the proposers (one keynote with discussion by panellists, contributions from multiple panellists,etc.). We specifically invite submissions that address the overall theme of the Congress, „Transformations and Transitions“, as well as topics that cross boundaries between periods and regions.

Proposals can be submitted via the online submission system and should include the title of the session together with a description of the theme and format, as well as the names of all panellists.

Round Tables are to be held in just one of the conference languages.

Workshops should be interactive, practical sessions. For example, they might demonstrate or teach computer applications or software (e.g. GIS, SPARQL, R), museological techniques (e.g. displaying coins, the use of audiovisual guides), experimental numismatics, etc.

Proposals can be submitted via the online submission system and should include the title of the workshop together with a description of the theme and how it will be addressed. Also, any additional infrastructure that would be required and equipment participants would need to bring (laptop, etc.)

Workshops are to be held in just one of the conference languages.

Please note that you may be the main proposer of only one session (irrespective of the format). You may also only speak in one session as the main speaker of a paper in a Regular Session or as the main convenor of a Round Table (but you may be a panellist in a Round Table and be main speaker in a Regular Session). The submissions system does not allow multiple submissions.

Languages: Papers in regular sessions may be in any of the Congress languages (English, French, German, Italian and Spanish). Round Tables and Workshops are to be be held in only one of the congress-languages. All proposals in this call for sessions should be in English.

The Call for Sessions will end on 15 June 2026. Proposers will be informed of the results in August 2026.

All proposals are to be submitted via the online submission system
